What is Marrige? Why should it be defended? [17 Jun 2008|02:45am]
I have been working on some thoughts about our current political climate and what people say on both sides.

The big deal that many people miss on marriage is what it is. What is it about marriage that needs defending?

A short essay...Please take a few minutes to read. )
Please give everyone a chance to have the same slice of happiness you enjoy.

Might as well... [12 Jun 2008|07:16am]
If you are reading this, if your eyes are passing over this right now, even if we don't speak often, please post a comment of a memory of you and I.
It can be anything you like either good or bad. When you're finished post this little paragraph in your blog, you may be surprised by what people remember about you.

Gettin your Linux on... [03 Apr 2008|01:58pm]
Things at work are going better, I've been doing more linux servers at work. I finished a dozen for one customer using Fedora 8, set up a local distro to sync them all. I wish I had been able to do it faster, though I was away on the weekend.

Another I had to compile the driver for the ethernet, strange what happens when you start using PCI-E network chips instead of PCI. No wonder the E1000 driver wasn't working. heh.

But, we got the $80k deal, now to make it happen. BLAAAADES! Fun thing will be pulling a 30 Amp Circuit into an area... these monstrosities have four power supplies at 1400 watts each. It would be nice to use 220v but, eh. not our requirements. I figure, to run ONE ten blade chassis, requires two 30 Amp Circuits. Thats just for one.

He must have failed his Save Vs Death... [04 Mar 2008|10:48pm]
Gary Gygax passed away today. A fellow who was one of the founders to the original D&D franchise, something I grew up with as a youngin... though I didn't know anything about until much later on.

Funny how you can get rather involved in some things and still know very little.

Post Vacation fun... [20 Feb 2008|10:32pm]
Well, back from Vacation with the folks, and things are starting to fall into a predictable pace.

One thing I didn't expect, we were shopping for some things and came across something unexpected. Target was selling Wii's. Well, we picked up one and now its set up. I Just need to figure out how to friend any of you folks who have one... I know a few people do.

Edit: My Wii Number is 1765-6402-6518-7015

holy Jeeebus [12 Feb 2008|09:01pm]
So...We're here in a nice hotel, chilling out, and flipping through channels. We cross over to Cspan and what appears to be a Judiciary hearing on the sentancing of crack cocaine...

It looks like several people get turns to talk to the judges and be asked questions... but what stops us right there... because we had to actually concentrate pretty hard to listen and find out what was being talked about...

...Was captian Combover.

I'm sorry for everyone loosing or having lost hair, I feel my own forehead and wonder how much hair I'll have in a few years myself. But really, if you want to make an impression, if you want people to take you seriously, If you want people to be listening to what you're saying, screw the combover. Trim, comb back, not over. We could not concentrate for the crazy combover...

It was like a stray twig on top of a big white tile floor, it stood out plainly under the cameras and the lights. Maybe the lights were a bit harsh, but Damn, it stood out like a sore thumb.

Seriously, if you are loosing your hair, don't try a pitiful combover. Cut, trim and make it neat, a couple dozen strands of hair does not cover half a square foot of head. Don't be like the guy from the american bar association.

I love my Card reader... BUT... [01 Feb 2008|09:32pm]
After having some tricky issues with my card reader (and another from the same company)... I found out I can upgrade the firmware to deal with larger size and SD-HD Secure Digital. How nice.

Though going home to do this little upgrade, punching in the website, I found... This.

Oh dear, I didn't intend to do any docking here... )

I... I... I expect things like this in Japan maybe... but, this is from a local company..

BUH???

Sawing logs [24 Jan 2008|07:12am]
I need to get a doctors appointment, my snoring is getting worse and its not getting any better.

I often wake up halfway through the night with a dry throat, I'm told its extremely loud, people can hear me rooms over.

Its not sawing logs, its buzzsawing through a petrified forest.

Ugh.

Seti@home? [22 Jan 2008|07:06pm]
I remember getting signed up for that a long time ago. Seems a couple computers I had set up for it a while back are still chunking along. heh...

Problem is the account I had it set up with used an email that is long since Defunct. Not sure I have any way to add computers to it anymore, or even gain control of the account.

Eq2 under UNIX?? [08 Dec 2007|01:00pm]
Yep. I just finished installing the new Wine, 0.9.50 and got it working for Everquest2.

Strangely it doesn't use up gobs of memory and cpu time. I am using a previous generation video card, half the memory, and an Athlon XP on this system...

Wow. Only some graphical issues to sort through, once those are sorted there is a lot more you can do with it. I just really wish there would be some DX10 development on Wine...

Now I just want to graduate systems down a notch, put the 4600X2 as my linux desktop...

Wine
Microsoft Windows Compatiblity layer (binary Emulator and Library)
From Version 0.9.46-0ubuntu1 to 0.9.50~winehq0~ubuntu~7.10-1

Go fig.

Leftovers are better... In a Burrito! [23 Nov 2007|05:53pm]
Its been a year or two since I thought about doing these, I doubt they're anything really new, but just as a good reminder, here's what I feel is a nice CLEAN way to use leftovers.

Turkey, potatos, stuffing, all this stuff can be messy and if you don't go after the gravy with the last roll, you usually leave a puddle on the plate afterwards.

Take one burrito wrap, Mission low fat tortillas are what I use, warm on a pan or griddle plate.

Once warm, put on plate and add several strips of turkey meat, Some stuffing, potatos and gravy. Make sure not to overload it. If you're new to burrito wrapping, don't go overboard.

The gravy can make things messy if you use too much. you can always use a second one on the bottom to hold things together if it gets out of hand, but I prefer a few smaller burritos to one giant burrito as big as my head.

Variants to the ingredients include green beans, Cranberry sauce, and other thanksgiving items, but use whatever you think tastes good together. The important part is to have a nice easily contained eating container for the thanksgiving leftovers.

This means you can take the leftovers with you to work. Make sure to make any you travel with smaller so things stay together better.

Ubuntu 7.10 [21 Oct 2007|08:41pm]
It kind of says something when a game you've been fighting with to get working on your WinXP desktop for a month works flawlessly while inside a WINE session on your Linux system... and with Compiz-Fusion working too...

Rawr, Sexy. I moved the monitor down and now its becoming my secondary computer, third monitor. Whooboy. Maybe I should find that program to network keyboard and mouse inputs like a virtual KVM...

Vista, wow? heheheh.... At this rate I don't know if I will need another Microsoft product again, even for Gaming. You realize that if Wine can be developed to the point of DirectX10 Support... it will provide a solid platform for gamers who do not wish to go to vista. I bet that would make microsoft wet their pants.

Dinner and some movies... [30 Sep 2007|11:28pm]
Work had a dinner event this saturday,

Work had it planned for dinner at a chinese seafood resturant, which was rather nice. The people running the show have some of the nicest parties. Food was not anything American, far different than any of the chinese dishes I'd seen in many places around here.

The event was mostly for the 25th of september.. The autumn mooncake festival. It is the chinese equivilent to the summer equinox or harvest festival.

The end of it was a good chance to meet up with different people from the company. Its good to get to know some of the people in different departments. It let me know we have an interior decorating department and that I would like to get some more things for the apartment.

I have to brainstorm more ideas about how to improve the company, and how to develop more inroads to local companies. Its not easy competing with the large companies, I have to work hard at building up a larger customer base.

Either way, ordered "A bit of Steven Fry and Hugh Laurie" DVD collection from Amazon. Can't wait. :)
